    Together We Can Give More

Thanks to the generosity of our customers, Pat Catan’s provided Warm Up America with its largest donation to date in 2016. This year, Pat Catan’s wants to give back more than ever before, with a goal to raise over $38,000 for the Warm Up America organization! See below for an update as of January 20th:

We’re calling on knitting novices, experienced crocheters and everyone in between to help us exceed the precedent set in 2016. With your donations and volunteered time, we will be able to place a record-setting number of warm, cozy afghan blankets into the hands of local community members in need.

    Give or Donate

Beginning on January 7th, all Pat Catan’s locations will be accepting $1 donations at the registers in hopes to reach a record-breaking amount of $38,000 for Warm Up America.

All stores will be collecting donations of skeins and scraps of yarn to be used to create squares for afghan blankets. Stop by any Pat Catan’s store with yarn scraps from home or purchase skeins in store and drop them into the designated donation bins.

Pick up yarn from any donation bin to begin knitting or crocheting 7 by 9 inch squares that will later be joined into afghan blankets. Not a yarn crafter? This is the perfect chance to learn! Check out our simple tutorials with basic knitting stitches and standard crochets, or let our craft coordinators help you construct your first square in the classroom.

Experienced knitters and crocheters are welcome to stop by any store location, pick up finished squares from the designated donation bins and join an afghan blanket.

    Join With Us

We are inviting knitters and crocheters of all skill levels to bring a friend and attend one of our Square Days! Stop into a Pat Catan’s classroom for good company and refreshments while you making 7 by 9 inch squares out of donated yarn.

All experienced crocheters and knitters are invited to participate in an Afghan Joining Party! All volunteer crafters are encouraged to stop in and transform donated yarn squares into whole afghan blankets. Bring a friend and enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that every finished afghan will touch the life of someone in your community.

On Monday, February 13th all completed afghan blankets will be distributed by Pat Catan’s employees to local community organizations. Hours of knitting, crocheting and joining blankets will come full circle when they reach the hands of people in need at local senior living centers, homeless shelters, women’s shelters, animal shelters and Red Cross chapters in our communities.

    About Warm Up America

Pat Catan’s has been proudly contributing to Warm Up America for 11 years, but the organization has been continuously warming people’s lives since 1991. Founder Evie Rosen started Warm Up America in a small Wisconsin town, gathering a few friends to knit and crochet afghans for neighbors in need.

As the group expanded, Evie began enlisting volunteers to knit or crochet small sections that could be easily joined into afghan blankets. Since 1991, Evie’s idea has taken off and Warm Up America has been able to provide warm afghan blankets, caps and other handcrafted items to tens of thousands of people in need across the country.

We’ll be updating you with how much money and yarn has been raised right here on the Pat Catan’s blog and in our emails, so make sure you check back often to see the impact you’re making. You can also stop into your favorite store to see the thermometer increase weekly towards our goal of $38,000 for Warm Up America!
