How to Make Creepy Crawly Spider Cake Balls

Spider cake balls are a Halloween treat that won't gross out even the pickiest eaters! Each chocolate cake ball is mixed with icing, on top of chocolate candy, covered in even more chocolate. Who could resist?

  • 1 Bake cake

Bake the cake according to the instructions on the box. Set it aside to cool. While waiting for cake to cool, place the candy melts into the chocolate melter and turn it on. The chocolate will take about 15 to 20 minutes to melt completely.

  • 2 Mix cake and frosting Mix cake and frosting

Once the cake is completely cooled, break it up into small pieces and mix it in with an entire tub of frosting.

  • 3 Cut Tootsie Roll Cut Tootsie Roll

Cut off a section of a large Tootsie Roll and roll it so it is long and skinny. These will be the spider’s legs.

  • 4 Create legs Create legs

Cut 1 of the long skinny pieces into 4 equal sections. Line the sections up parallel to each other, and then pinch the middle together tightly leaving 8 dangling legs.

  • 5 Trim legs Trim legs

Roll a scoop of the cake mixture into a ball a little less than an inch in diameter. Compare the size of the ball against a set of legs by setting the ball on top. Trim the legs if necessary.

  • 6 Coat cake ball Coat cake ball

Stir the melted chocolate to make sure there are no clumps. Remove the cake ball from the Tootsie Roll legs and drop it into the melted chocolate. Roll it until it’s coated, scoop it out and drop it onto the middle of a set of legs.

  • 7 Add eyes Add eyes

Carefully set 2 pearl sprinkles onto the face to give the spider eyes. Dip the tine of a fork in chocolate and make a tiny dot on each pearl sprinkle to make a pupil.
