How to Make a Leprechaun Trap

It's a trap! Get ready for St. Patrick's Day and create your own Leprechaun Trap! Build a ladder, fashion a festive hat and fill it with gold coins. On St. Patrick's Day, be on the lookout for mischievous leprechauns-you may even be lucky and catch one!

  • 1 Create the leprechaun's ladder

Lay two of the bigger 4 1/2" craft sticks on the table surface, parallel to each other with about 1 1/2" of space between them. Glue five mini craft sticks across the two longer sticks to make a leprechaun ladder. Set aside to dry.

  • 2 Cover paper craft roll

Cover and glue a paper craft roll with green cardstock.

  • 3 Create the hat's brim

Cut a 3/4" green cardstock circle for the hat brim.

  • 4 Create the hat's band

Cut a 1 3/4" x 6 1/4" black foam strip for the hat band and stick it in place on one end of the craft tube.

  • 5 Create the hat's buckle

Cut a 1 1/4" x 1 3/4" yellow foam buckle to stick on the front center of the hat band.

  • 6 Complete the hat

Glue the tube onto the center of the green cardstock circle to make a leprechaun hat.

  • 7 Decorate the hat

Decorate the hat trap with shamrock stickers.

  • 8 Position the ladder

Lean the ladder up against the Leprechaun Hat Trap.

  • 9 Add gold coins

Use a few gold coin charms or cut out 1" gold coins from gold glitter foam to bait the trap for catching a leprechaun!
