How to Make Painted Glass Blocks

From springtime flowers to dancing hula girls, the potential designs for your glass block are endless! Once you stencil your design, use your finished glass block as a vase for live or artificial flowers, or even add aquarium gravel and turn it into a fish bowl.
  • 1 Clean outside

Clean the outside of the glass block with rubbing alcohol. Let dry.

  • 2 Position & secure stencil

Position the stencil onto the block. Use masking tape to hold the stencil in place.

  • 3 Apply paint

Apply a small amount of paint onto the stencil using a sponge dauber. Carefully remove the stencil and allow the paint to dry. Use a moistened Q-tip to clean any excess paint on the block.

  • 4

Place aqua pearls or aquarium gravel into the glass block and add water about halfway. If using aqua pearls, let sit for several minutes for pearls to absorb water.

  • 5 Arrange flowers

Arrange flowers in the block or place the fish into its new home.
