How to Make a String Art Heart

You've seen string art on Pinterest; now try your hand at creating your own! Start by creating our String Art Heart, then try getting creative with different shapes in different colors.
  • 1 Paint the panel

Paint the panel using acrylic paint. Let it dry completely.

  • 2 Draw and cut a heart

Fold the scrap paper in half. Start at the fold and draw half of a heart shape. Cut the shape out.

  • 3 Place the shape

Position the shape in the center of the panel and use a piece of tape to secure it.

  • 4 Hammer or push pins

Keeping to the outline of the shape, begin hammering or pushing pins into the board until they are just sticking out of the back. Keep the pins about ¼” apart from one another.

  • 5 Loop the floss around a pin

To begin stringing, start at any pin and loop the floss around it once, leaving enough to tie a knot at the end. Use a piece of tape to secure the loose end.

  • 6 Pull the floss across the shape

Pull the floss across the shape to any other pin and loop around it once. Continue stringing in a random pattern until the floss runs out.

  • 7 Knot the floss

End the floss at the pin you began with. Tie a double knot with both ends and apply a small dab of glue to the knot. Let the glue dry and snip the loose ends close to the knot.
