How to Make a Hematite & Gold Necklace with Tassel

Spend an afternoon crafting this dramatic tassel necklace! This project is the perfect way for an intermediate jewelry crafter to challenge their skills and pick up a few new ones. The end result is a bold statement necklace, which will be stylish at your next special event.

  • 1 Measure & cut chain

Measure and cut a 9" and a 14" section of hematite curb chain.

  • 2 Attach with jump rings

Open the jump rings on the geometric chain and remove 2 of the oval links. Attach an oval link with a 6mm jump ring to the last link on the 14" chain. Open and attach a 4mm jump ring and a clasp to the other end of the chain.

  • 3 Attach a crimp bead

Cut 3 sections of jewelry wire 10" long. String on a crimp bead and loop the wire back through the crimp leaving a small loop, and crimp with the crimping tool.

  • 4 String E beads & rondelles

String 1 strand with 2 bronze E beads and the strand of the metallic gold rondelles. Complete this strand with 2 bronze E beads and a crimp bead. Loop the wire back through the crimp and several beads. Leave a small loop at the end, crimp and trim off any excess wire.

  • 5 String second wire

String the second wire with 2 black E beads, the strand of jet black rondelles and 2 black E beads. Add a crimp bead and loop the wire back through the crimp and several beads. Leave a small loop at the end, crimp and trim off any excess wire.

  • 6 String third wire

String the third wire with 2 black E beads, 39 grey pearls and 2 black E beads. Add a crimp bead and loop the wire back through the crimp and several beads. Leave a small loop at the end, crimp and trim off any excess wire.

  • 7 Attach jump rings to oval links

Twist open a 6mm jump ring and slide on the last link of the 9" chain and the 3 beaded strands. Attach a jump ring to the oval link 4mm jump ring. Repeat with the other end of the strands and oval link. Attach a 4mm jump ring to the top hole in the oval link.

  • 8 String eye pin

For the tassel, string a 2" eye pin with 4 pave beads, a black diamond, hematite, gold and topaz.

  • 9 String jump ring

Remove the jump ring from the fine chain strand. Open a 6mm jump ring and string it on the end of the chain. Measure about 6" and loop on the jump ring. Repeat 9 times.

  • 10 Attach with jump ring

Attach the jump ring to the loop on the beaded eye pin. Attach the other eye pin to the center of the 9" chain with a 6mm jump ring.
