How to Make a Steampunk Sea Life Lariat
Use steampunk charms to create this trendy lariat! Sea life charms make the perfect summertime necklace, however, the techniques for constructing this lariat are universal, and can be used in a number of jewelry designs. Choose an entirely different theme for your lariat, or make one using a mix of your favorite charms!
Cut your chain
Use wire cutters to cut the chain into 2 lengths, 19” and 17” long.
Attach a lobster clasp
Use a small jump ring to attach the lobster clasp to the end of the longer chain.
Attach a charm
On the opposite end of the chain, use a large jump ring to attach a large sea life charm.
Attach a jump ring
Attach the other large jump ring to the end of the shorter chain. Then, use a small jump ring to attach a different large sea life charm to the other end.
Clip the lobster clasp
Clip the lobster clasp to the large jump ring on the short chain. Lay the chains side by side with the clasp at the top. Use a small jump ring to join the two links from each chain strand, approximately 12” below the clasp.
Join 2 links of chain
Use a second small jump ring to join together another 2 links of chain, 3 links below the ones joined in step 5.
Attach a charm
All of the remaining attachments use the smaller size jump rings. Attach a large sea life charm to the jump ring from step 6. Attach a small charm just above it, to the jump ring from step 5.
Attach the remaining charms
Attach the remaining large and small charms at intervals along the 2 chains.
