How to Make a Balloons in Flight Mixed Media Canvas

Creativity takes flight with this mixed media canvas project! Honeycomb paper is perfect for making whimsical hot air balloons that dreamily float right off of your canvas. Use your finished canvas to decorate a child's nursery, bedroom or any space in your home that needs a burst of charming color.

  • 1 Stamp clouds onto canvas

Cut out cloud template and position it near the top of the canvas. Stamp ink onto blending tool and apply to the canvas using a circular motion. Continue to move the template across and down the canvas, changing the angles as you ink to create clouds.

  • 2 Cut shapes

Open a red, orange and yellow honeycomb pack. Place the template along the glue side of each pack to make 4", 6" and 8" shapes. Use a pencil to draw along the groove. Cut out shapes. Repeat using template sizes on coordinating cardstock. Remember, each balloon needs 2 halves.

  • 3 Construct & attach balloons

Glue cardstock to each side of the balloons. Position the balloons on canvas and hot glue in place.

  • 4 Fold into box

Cut a 3", 4" and 5" square from brown paper. Fold each square into an origami box.

  • 5 Punch holes

Punch a small hole into 3 sides of each box.

  • 6 Add baker's twine & glue box

Cut 3 sections of baker's twine into 20" lengths. Tie 1 onto each side of the box. Glue the not hole punched side of the box to the canvas, about 2" below each balloon.

  • 7 Glue & trim baker's twine

Bring the twine ends over the balloon to the top. Glue and trim excess.
