How to Make a Patriotic DIY Topiary
Looking for a unique centerpiece for your backyard barbecue or patriotic party? Stack your stars and stripes when you make this paper DIY topiary! Use honeycombs to make festive globes, then deocrate them with your favorite paper crafting supplies.
Paint pot white and set aside to dry.
Make honeycomb balls
Separate each of the 2 blue honeycomb packs. Line the template up on the glue side of the pack and draw along the 4" line on the light blue and the 6" line on the dark blue. You will need 2 halves for each ball. Use template on blue cardstock to make 4 halves for each ball.
Glue honeycomb balls
Glue cardstock to each honeycomb half. Glue dark blue halves together around the dowel rod about 4" from the bottom, forming a ball. Repeat steps with smaller ball around top portion of dowel, leaving about 1 1/2" space between the balls.
Arrange in pot
Glue foam into pot. Insert dowel into foam and glue. Add paper shred into pot.
Cut red and blue cardstock to make a label for the pot. Glue the label to the pot and embellish with stickers and rhinestones.
Punch & bend stars
Punch 3 stars in each of the cardstock sheets. Lightly score each star across the points. Bend and fold along the score lines to create a dimensional star. Add a rhinestone to each star center.
Make & attach bunting
Cut an 8" section of baker's twine. Cut 3, 2" x 1" rectangles from cardstock. Fold in half and cut into triangles. Fold over twine and glue to make bunting. Arrange and glue to top ball.
Attach stickers & stars
Attach stickers to the topiary with foam dots. Arrange stars onto the balls.
