How to Make a Braided Yarn Necklace

Whether you're a jewelry maker, a yarn crafter or a fashionista, you can create a customized Braided Yarn Necklace! You don't need any crafting experience to make yours, just some textured yarn in your favorite color, some chain and some crimp ends.

  • 1 Measure & cut yarn

Measure and cut 18, 32" strands of yarn.

  • 2 Gather & knot strands

Gather and knot an end of the 18 strands and tape down to the work surface.

  • 3 Separate into sections

Separate the 18 strands into 3 sections with 6 strands of yarn each.

  • 4 Braid & knot

Braid 3 sections and knot at the end.

  • 5 Squeeze into end crimp

Remove tape. Squeeze the yarn below the knot and place into an end crimp. Fold each end of the crimp over the yarn. Cut the excess yarn above the end crimp.

  • 6 Squeeze into end crimp

Squeeze yarn about the knot on the other end and place into an end crimp. Fold each end of the crimp over the yarn. Cut the excess yarn above the end crimp.

  • 7 Attach chain

Measure an 11 1/2" section of chain. Twist the end link open and attach it to an end crimp. Twist closed. Repeat with the other side.
