    Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 sc in each sc to end of row. turn. Rep last row until work from beg (when slightly stretched) measures 18 (19-21-28-31-35)" [45.5 (48-53.5-71-78.5-89) cm], ending on a WS row. *Do not* fasten off. Turn work sideways and proceed as follows:

    Ch 1. *1 sc in next sc. 1 dc in next sc. Rep from * to last sc. 1 sc in last sc. Turn.

    Ch 3 (counts as dc). *1 sc in next dc. 1 dc in next sc. Rep from * to end of row. Turn.

  • 8 4th row

    Ch 1. *1 sc i nnext dc. 1 dc in next sc. Rep from * to last sc. Turn. Last 2 rows form pat. ** Cont in pat until work from lower edge measures 14 (17-19-24-25-27)" [35.5 (43-48-61-63.5-68.5) cm], ending on a WS row.

  • 9 Shape neck: 1st row

    (RS). Pat across 18 (20-21-29-32-36) sts. Hdc2tog over next 2 sts. Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.

  • 10 2nd row

    Ch 2 (does not count as st). Hdc2tog. Pat to end of row. Turn.

  • 11 3rd row

    Pat to last 2 sts. Hdc2tog. Turn.

  • 12 4th row

    As 2nd row. 16 (18-19-27-30-34) sts rem. Cont even in pat until work from lower edge measures 16 (19-21-27-28-30)"  [40.5  (48-53.5-68.5-71-76) cm], ending on a WS row. Fasten off.

    (RS). Skip next 5 (5-7-9-11-11) sts. Join yarn with sl st to next st. Ch 2 (does not count as st). Hdc2tog. Pat to end of row. Turn.

    Rep from ** to ** as given for Front. Cont in pat until work from lower edge measures same length as Front to shoulder, ending on a WS row. Fasten off.

  • 18 Collar

    Sew right shoulder seam. Ch 22 (22-24-30-30-30).

  • 19 1st row

    (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of chain. Turn. 21 (21-23-29-29-29) sts.

  • 20 2nd row

    Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn. Rep 2nd row until work from beg measures length to fit loosely around neck edge, ending on a WS row and sewing in position with ease as you work. Fasten off. Sew left shoulder and Collar seam.

  • 21 Side ribbing

    Ch 8 (8-8-10-10-10).

  • 22 1st row

    (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of chain. Turn 7 (7-7-9-9-9) sts.

  • 23 2nd row

    Ch 1. Working in back loops only, 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn. Rep 2nd row until work from beg measures length to fit along side of Poncho, ending on a WS row and sewing in position as you work. Fasten off. Rep for opposite side. Sew 2 buttons on each side through all thickness.
