How to Make a Princess Costume

Princesses aren't just in fairy tales! Create an adorable no-sew costume using shimmering glittery fabric and then complete her look with a pointed hat and a magical wand. This costume is easy to make and with the help from Pat Catan's, she'll be the prettiest princess in all the land in no-time!
  • 1 Measure & create the waistband

Use elastic to measure the child's waist size. Do not stretch the elastic while measuring around the waist. Add an extra inch to allow for the 1/2" overlap seam. Cut the elastic and glue 1/2" in both ends to make a waistband.

  • 2 Note: For a floor length skirt

If you are making the skirt floor length, you must measure the distance from the height of the child's waistband to the floor, then double that number plus add 2 inches for the kont. This will allow for the correct length for the 6" wide strips of fabric that will be cut in step 3.

  • 3 Cut the fabric

Cut 6" wide strips by the appropriate length determined in step #2.

  • 4 Create the skirt

Slide the elastic waistband aroudn the back of a chair or a piece of cardboard to hold it in place while tying on the cut fabric strips. Take one strip and fold it in half and push the center folded loop downward behind the elastic band, hold in place and pull both ends of the strip over the front of the elastic and through the center loop, pulling down to make a knot right onto the waistband.

  • 5 Continue creating the skirt

Continue attaching each strip of fabric alternating 2 turquoise strips next to each other, then 1 white strip and so on all the way around the waistband until the skirt is finished.

  • 6 Create the hat

Cut out a piece of turquoise snowflake fabric to cover the felt princess hat and then hot glue it into place.
