How to Make a Butterfly Mobile
Welcome in the sights of the season with a Butterfly Mobile! Use colorful cardstock, paper butterflys and vibrant paint to create a beautiful mobile that can sway in the light springtime breeze.
-
1
Create circles
Choose three colors of paper and punch out eight scalloped circles of each color for a total of 24 circles.
-
2
Paint the circles
Apply gold paint to the edges of each paper circle with a sponge dauber. Let dry. Repeat on the other side of each circle.
-
3
Stack the circles
Make eight stacks with three colors of circles in each stack, alternating which color is in the center of each stack.
-
4
Fold & attach a butterfly
Fold the top scalloped circle in half on all eight stacks. Glue a butterfly in the center of the top circle along the fold line. Repeat this on all eight stacks.
-
5
Glue the circles

Repeat
Repeat step 4 with the third circle on all eight stacks.

Cut, tie & glue the cord
Cut three 40" lengths of cord. Tie the end of each cord to the dowel rod, spacing them about 2 1/2" apart with the center cord tied on at the center of the dowel rod. Hot glue them in place on the dowel rod.
-

Lay out the butterflies
Lay the eight butterfly circles along the cords spacing them out so they will each hang and spin freely. Put three on the first cord, two on the middle cord and three on the third cord.
-
10
Attach the cord
Attach the cord with glue right along the center fold line in between the middle circle layer and outer butterfly circle layer on each one of the circles.
-
11
Tie a knot
Tie a knot about 4" up from the bottom of each cord.
