How to Make a Festive Fabric Pumpkin

Decorate for fall with a Festive Fabric Pumpkin! Create a pumpkin out of your favorite seasonal pattern, stuff with Poly-fil® and then wrap it all up with jute. This craft is easy to make and will be a great addition to your home decor!
  • 1 Creating a large pumpkin

    a. Open up a fat quarter and cut off 3 1/2" on the edge that has the small row of manufactured holes running along it. Use the first fold that is 3 1/2" in from the edge as a guide as you cut along.

    b. Put three extra-large handfuls of Poly-fil® into the center of the fabric square.

    c. Pick up the center of each side of the square of fabric and bring all four sides up to meet together over the Poly-fil® stuffing. While holding the four sides together with one hand, use the other hand to pull up each of the four corners. Pull up each corner one at a time and gather them together at the top, 4-5 inches below their pointed ends and use a rubber band to secure them. Cut off the pointed ends. This will leave a 2-3" pumpkin stem length.

    d. Take the roll of jute and tie a square knot just below the rubber band, making sure to have a 5" length on the short end of the knot. Wrap the jute from the roll around the fabric pumpkin stem up the stem and then back down the stemp to the knot and tie another square knot. Make sure to have two 5" jute ends hanging down from the knot when you cut it off from the roll.

  • 2 Creating a small pumpkin

    a. Follow the instructions for the large pumpkin except cut the 18" x 18" square of fabric into four 9" x 9" squares and use only one extra-large handful of Poly-fil® stuffing.

Note: The corner points pulled up and gathered will be shorter, making a smaller, shorter jute wrapped stem.
