How to Make a Mama and Baby Bird
Springtime has arrived and so have the birds! Create your own adorably fluffy Mama and Baby Bird using foam, paint and colorful boas.
-
1
Cover the eggs
Hot glue a boa to cover each of the Durafoam eggs.
-
2
Cut & connect the half balls
Cut 1/2" off the side of the half balls. Position them side by side and push a floral wire through to connect them. Trim off excess wire.
-
3
Cover the balls
Cover the balls with light modeling paste and set aside to dry.
-
4
Cut the dowel rod
Cut two 16" long sections from the 5/16" dowel rod. Cut one end into a point.
-
5
Paint
Paint the sticks with the Granny Smith paint. Paint two each of the 2" and 1 /12" Styrofoam® balls, and the connected half balls with the Snow Pea paint using a foam pouncer.
-
6
Paint the plaque
Thin the Chestnut brown paint with water and paint the plaque. While still wet, brush the Wet Cement paint over the plaque. Set aside to dry.
-
7
Attach eyeballs & cut out beaks
Push eyeballs into the 1 1/2" Styrofoam® balls and glue them close together on the egg. Cut beak shapes from the felt.
-
8
Create the bird's body
Cut the floral wire in half. Bend it into a U shape and push the ends into each egg about 1/2 way down. Using the photo as a guide, glue along the edge of the beak and press and shape onto the egg, between the eyes and wire.
-
9
Create the bird's legs
Push the dowel rod through the center of a 2" Stryrofoam® ball then through the center top of a joined half ball. Repeat this step with the other dowel rod. Slide a smaller Styrofoam® ball halfway down each dowel rod. Carefully position the egg on top of the dowel rods and push down. Secure with hot glue.
-
10
Create the baby bird's nest
Glue the feet onto one side of the plaque. Stack the grapevine wreaths with the smaller one on the bottom, wire together in several places. Glue the wreaths onto the plaque and place the baby bird inside.
