How to Make Rustic Ornaments & Crate

Display holiday ornaments in a decorative Wooden Crate! This craft is easy to create with a completed crate, festive paint and stenciled ornaments. Once complete, set the crate next to your tree and have a display space for your favorite ornaments all season long!
  • 1 Paint the crate & ornaments

Using the photo as a guide, paint the crate and all four ornaments. Let dry.

  • 2 Dry brush the crate & ornaments

Dry brush the crate and ornaments with white paint. Let dry.

  • 3 Ink the muslin

Rub the green ink pad over both sides of a 4" x 12" section of muslin. Set aside to dry and then tear it into 1" wide strips.

  • 4 Stencil & highlight the ornaments

Use a pencil to trace the "Joy" and "Noel" stencils onto the ornaments. Fill them in with the black marker. Highlight the letters with the white paint pen.

  • 5 Tie the muslin

Tie the muslin strips to each ornament.

  • 6 Sand & ink the crate

Sand the edges of the crate then ink the edges with the red and black ink pads.

  • 7 Draw snowflakes onto the crate

Draw three simple snowflakes with the pencil onto one side of the crate. Go over the pencil with the black marker and highlight them with the gold metallic and white paint pens.

  • 8 Add excelsior & ornaments to the crate

Fill the crate with excelsior and place the ornaments inside.
