Crushed Shells
16oz EasyCast Epoxy 
Americana® Decor™ Satin Varnish Chalk Paint
Acrylic Paint: Blue, Beige
Disposable Plastic Container
Masking Tape

How to Make a Shell Table Tray

What if we told you, a simple DIY project could make your life easier? A Shell Table Tray is perfect for watching tv while eating food, surprising someone in bed with breakfast or simply help you carry easily spilled drinks from different rooms! 
  • 1 Cover area with paper

    Cover your work area with newspaper and work in a well-ventilated area.

  • 2 Paint the inside

    Paint the inside and edges of the tray with two coats of the blue paint. Let dry.

  • 3 Paint the outside

    Paint the outside of the tray with two coats of the beige paint. Let dry.

  • 4 Mask the long sides

    Mask the long sides of the tray with three horizontal strips of masking tape.

  • 5 Paint two stripes

    Paint two stripes with the blue paint. Let dry and carefully remove the tape.

  • 6 Add a coat of varnish

    Add a coat of the satin varnish to the painted tray. Let dry.

  • 7 Hot glue inside edges

    Hot glue along the inside edges of the tray to create a tight seal for the epoxy.

  • 8 Spread shells evenly

    Spread the shells evenly to cover the bottom of the tray.

  • 9 Mix the epoxy

    Mix the epoxy in the container according to the box instructions. Pour it slowly over the shells inside the tray.

  • 10 Break any bubbles

    Use a toothpick to break any bubbles that may have formed.

  • 11 Let tray sit

    Let the tray sit undisturbed for 24 to 48 hours or until completely hardened.
