How to Make a Faux Leaded Window

Create your own Faux Leaded Window! Add strips and paint to bring this rustic homestyle window frame to life.
  • 1 Take apart window

Remove the plexiglass and hardware from the window.

  • 2 Paint window frame

Paint the window frame with thinned down brown and black colored paint. Let dry.

  • 3 Dry brush & sand frame

Dry brush white paint onto the frame. Let dry. Sand the surface and edges.

  • 4 Paint frame grey

Go over the window frame with a wash of thinned down grey paint. Let dry.

  • 5 Paint hardware

Paint the hardware with grey paint and let dry.

  • 6 Mark leading lines

Using the photo as a guide, determine where the faux leading lines will go on the plexiglass. Mark the lines by placing masking tape on the backside of the plexiglass.

  • 7 Add leading lines

Peel and stick the leading onto the front side of the plexiglass, using the masking tape as a guide. Trim the ends and pieces where needed with an X-Acto® knife. Remove the masking tape.

  • 8 Add plexiglass & hardware

Replace the plexiglass into the frame and screw the hardware back on.
