How to Make a Patterned Felt Tree

Decorate for the season with a Patterned Felt Tree! Use paint, festive felt and your favorite holiday fabric to add some dimension to your wintertime display.
  • 1 Paint the dowel rod

Paint the dowel rod brown for the tree trunk. Set aside to dry.

  • 2 Create the outside tree edge

Using the photo as a guide for the outside tree edges, use the larger tree template (LINK) on the flert and cut out three of the same size tree pieces. These will be combined to make one tree.

  • 3 Create the patterned tree

For the patterned part of the tree, iron the heat-fuse adhesive backing onto a piece of holiday print fabric that's big enough for six of the smaller tree shapes to be cut out of it.

  • 4 Cut out tree shapes

Pin the smaller tree template onto the fused print fabric and cut out six tree shapes.

  • 5 Peel & iron

Pell off the paper backing on the fabric trees and iron one of each on each side of the felt tree shapes so a b order shows around the edges of the felt.

  • 6 Fold trees & iron

Fold each felt/fabric tree in half lengthwise and iron them to form a crease.

  • 7 Put the tree together

Glue the back of a creased tree to the painted dowel rod so the tree top reaches 2" above the top end of the dowel rod. Repeat this step with the remaining two tree sections, spaced evely around the dowel rod trunk.

  • 8 Add floral foam to the pot

Cut a 2" cube of floral foam and glue it down into the bottom of the pot.

  • 9 Add the tree to the pot

Push the bottom of the trunk into the center of the floral foam within the pot.

  • 10 Add paper shred

Cover the floral foam with paper shred.
